November 2012 campout/hike Sky Meadows State Park

We went on a ten mile hike at Sky Meadows State Park. We had a great time!  Our Scoutmaster, Brother Stay even caught a Black Rat Snake!

3 day, 2 night AT hike


Over Easter Weekend, Troop 1173 spent 3 days and 2 nights hiking on the Appalachian Trail from Wilsons Gap to Harpers Ferry.  We hiked over 20 miles and had a few set backs, but somehow we all made it back alive!  The boys were great and all worked really hard.

Spirits are high.  They don't quite know yet what's in store for them.

 

After searching the underbrush, dodging banjos and shotguns, and wandering through the backwoods of West Virginia, we found our starting point.








Justin knows how to just keep putting one foot in front of the other.




Zach is happy to see signs of civilization again and to know he's not far from Virginia.



Not only are Nick and Alex carrying their packs, they are also 'supporting' their Scoutmaster.

The over acheivers are already crossing the bridge while some of us slower folks look on from a distant hill.

Nick is very handy.  He made walking sticks, guns, and makeshift shorts.

We saw lots of wildlife like this family of turtles.

The all you can eat pancake breakfast really hit the spot after two days of hiking and eating food carried on our backs.

The Harpers Ferry KOA was a nice retreat for our last night on the trail.

Scout Camp 2011 - Camp Rock Enon
